What does BG1 DudleyFix do?
This FixPack addresses a whole load of scripting, spelling and file errors in Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast. Yes, you should install Baldurdash first, and no, DudleyFix does not duplicate anything Baldurdash did, it fixes everything else. General
Broken inventory items have
replacement pictures but the "Broken Weapon" picture
clearly shows a sword. This doesn't make sense
if your axe or halberd fail (for example).
Amulets
23.11.04 AMUL15.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 9990
- Shield Amulet -
AC Bonus should be +4 to Crushing
and Slashing, +3 to Missile
and +2 to Piercing; description amended (+2
to All Weapons, +1 to Missile, +2 to both
Crushing and Slashing (separate Effects). Effects
should bypass resistance. Should give +1 to all
saving throws.
Arrows 22.11.04 AROW05.ITM
- Arrow of Biting - has
no identified description, what should be
the ID'd description is in the UNID'd part
of the file - from Idobek. Additionally the
General Description should therefore be that
of a standard arrow. (NB: there is a query
about differences between the original 5CD
and later versions of the game regarding
this bug).
23.11.04 AROW07.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 17539
- Arrow of Dispelling -
uses Dispel Magic but fails to remove magically
summoned weapons.
AROW13.ITM
- Arrow - range is not 100 like all other arrows; however, these arrows are only used in Candlekeep for training quests where range is not important.
Axes
22.11.04 AX1H04.ITM
- Throwing Axe - will lose
some of its colours if hit by a Dispel Magic
spell. The effect duration should be Instant/While
Equipped (2) and not Instant/Limited (0)

22.11.04 AX1H07.ITM
- Bala's Axe - actually
has a Speed Factor of 5 though the description
says 7. I suggest the ability is incorrect
as the axe itself is not enhanced to hit
or damage (which is usually what seems
to improve a weapon's speed). Essentially the
axe is like a plain axe. Not sure which
is correct. Smoketest points out: "Bala's
Axe sets an absolute 80% casting failure
per hit as well as a stacking +80% casting
failure. The description seems to favor
the absolute value so the latter should probably
be deleted."
Blunt Weapons
22.11.04 BLUN01.ITM
- Club - will lose some
of its colours if hit by a Dispel Magic
spell. The effect duration should be Instant/While
Equipped (2) and not Instant/Limited (0).
It will also "break" from iron failure despite
being a wooden weapon. The ability has 'Replace
with
Used
Up (2)' and MISC56 is specified as the
item
to change to when it breaks. I don't think
wooden clubs should be subject to the iron
crisis - from Smoketest.
22.11.04 BLUN04.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 6709
- Mace - has a weight of
10, but its description specifies 8. To be
consistent with other plain / magic weapon
weight patterns the description should be
10. It will also lose some of its colours
if hit by a Dispel Magic spell. The effect
duration should be Instant/While Equipped
(2) and not Instant/Limited (0) - from Smoketest.
22.11.04 BLUN06.ITM
- Morning Star - will lose
some of its colours if hit by a Dispel Magic
spell. The effect duration should be Instant/While
Equipped (2) and not Instant/Limited (0)

- Root of the Problem -
has the IDS Targets in its 'Use EFF file'

Boots
05.01.05 BOOT01.ITM

- Boots of Speed - the character
wearing the boots can have Haste cast on them for
insane speed. The Haste spell should not be cumulative
with similar magics according to its description.
Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way
of preventing only the movement effect of the Haste
spell.
Should

icon on character portrait (though attacks are
not doubled).
12.02.05 BOOT03.ITM
- Boots of the North - should
display Protection from Cold icon - from Sascha.
22.11.04 BOOT06.ITM
- Worn Out Boots - should
have inventory and description icons changed
to IBOOT06 and CBOOT06 respectively - from
Idobek.
Bows
22.11.04 BOW01.ITM
- Composite Long Bow - has
its Minimum Strength set to 18, when the
context of the other bows, including the
Composite Long Bow +1, suggest a Minimum
Strength of 8 - from Smoketest.
22.11.04 BOW02.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 16288
- Composite Long Bow +1 will
lose some of its colours if hit by a Dispel
Magic spell. The effect duration should be
Instant/While Equipped (2) and not Instant/Limited
(0) - from Smoketest. It also contains a
spelling error in the description: THACO.
It is missing text in its ID'd description
to indicate it is magical.
22.11.04 BOW05.ITM

Bracers
22.11.04 BRAC11.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string

- Bracers of Binding - have
duplicated Casting Failure effects, but
one is set so that it stacks (+%), which is not
the intention if the description is any
clue.
It also lacks an effect to display a
Cursed icon on the player's portrait." - from

Cloaks and Robes
23.11.04 CLCK04.ITM
- Cloak of the Wolf - has
duplicated Casting Failure effects. One effect
sets an absolute casting failure and the
other one sets a stacking (inc/dec) casting
failure. Again, context suggests that the
Set version is correct and the Inc/Dec version
ought to be removed - from Smoketest.
30.01.05 CLCK07.ITM
- Nymph's Cloak -
price should be 4500, partly because it is better
than Algernon's Cloak and partly because that's
what it is in BG2.

the description and its BG2 incarnation suggests
the charm ability was not intended (possibly copied over from the Nymph Cloak by mistake).

icon which would make it very difficult to find

24.11.04 MISC2P.ITM
- Greagan's Harp - specifies
a duration of 12 hours (3600 seconds),
but the portrait icon only lasts for 120 seconds
and the ending sound effect also occurs
after
120 seconds - from Smoketest. Creature
type for Charm effect should be Humanoid. Should
use aVENGER's CHARMR.EFF file for Elf and Half-Elf
so that
his fix (recommended) and DudleyFix
do
not cancel each other out
when installed (see Installation
Instructions).
23.11.04 MISC72.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 11848
- Claw of Kazgaroth - has
a save vs death penalty -3 though its description
says -4. I suspect the description is incorrect.
Also it has a Lore to identify value of
20 despite being bought from a shop. Also it
is a cursed item but does not display the
Cursed portrait icon, nor does it say that
it must be removed with a Remove Curse
spell in the description - from Smoketest.
23.11.04 MISC78.ITM
- Invitation - has an item
ability, yet it is just a simple, unique,
non-stacking, non-magical scroll, so the
item ability is probably a left-over from
a file copy (such as from another scroll)
- from Smoketest.
23.11.04 MISC98.ITM, DIALOG.TLK string 22011
- Durlag's Goblet - has
a description (heals 5 HP) that does not
match its properties. It appears to heal
all lost HPs. I suggest that the description
is amended rather than the effects for
a more interesting cursed item. Additionally,
when drunk a "cursed" icon should
appear on the consumer's portrait - from
Smoketest (NB: there is a query about differences
between the original 5CD and later versions
of the game regarding the cursed icon).
23.11.04 SCRL3F.ITM
- Sarevok's diary - has the image
of a book but the sound of a scroll when it is
dropped. Change Category from Scrolls (11) to Misc
(0).
Monsters
23.11.04 RINGWOLF.ITM
- Greater Wolfweres - regenerate
HPs but the effect is stackable which could
lead to unkillable creatures in certain situations.
Duration should be Instant/While Equipped
(2) not Instant/Limited (0)? Time set to
0?
BASILG1.ITM
- Greater Basilisk Ranged Attack -
has IDS Target in Hold Creature effect
set to "Myself", while other monsters
with this effect have the IDS Target set
to "Nothing" - from Smoketest.

game regarding the occurence of this bug).

- Cattack's Two-Handed Sword -

they are offensive in nature (e.g. damage effect

- Variety of potions - Smoketest: "The
default ability ... in potions 27 to 46 seems to
be left over from a file copy of a weapon item.
The two effects hooked to this ability are 'damage'
and 'kill', both targeting live actors. From the
context of potions, this ability doesn't belong."
17.01.05 POTN13.ITM
- Oil of Fiery Burning -
is meant to do 5D6 damage (save vs breath
for half) but the engine doesn't allow
for dividing damage so it was set as 3D6 (save
vs spells) and 3D4 (no save). Can this
be adjusted to 3D5 and 3D5 respectively? Smoketest
- "There is also a message "Gulp" displayed
when this potion is used, yet the user isn't
drinking it but throwing it. (Drinking it
would most certainly mean death.)" -
ACTION: remove Display string effect. Idobek
says "The Oil of Fiery Burning's saves
give one third damage - I suggest just
changing the descriptions."

the description says it provides immunity
to all spells of level 1 through 5, but
the potion actually provides immunity for all
spells of level 1 through 9. Since there
are no level 9 spells in BG1, I assume
this is a bug and should be changed so that it
matches the description. It uses the Protection
from Magic portrait icon, though the Shielded
icon would be more accurate - from Smoketest. I have
changed the icon to 173.

Berserk effect is attached to Item instead
of Item Ability, like some other cursed
berserking items are. It is also active
'while equipped' instead of for 10 round
periods during combat, again like those
other items. Not sure this makes any
difference, though - from Smoketest. I have not changed
the Beserk effect - Dudleyville.
23.11.04 SW2H05.ITM
- Two-Handed Sword - used by Deathknights,
Mirror Fiend and some versions of Sarevok -
is magical but has both a broken weapon
icon and "When Drained: Replace with

the colors can be dispelled (Instant/Limited

This is really a +5 sword, but since
the player can't use it there's no reason to describe

about monster weapons or not, but I figure
they ought to have bug-free equipment
